How did Impulse! Records get their name?

In 1960 Am-Par established a jazz subsidiary and hired Creed Taylor, a producer and arranger who had worked with Bethlehem Records. Taylor became producer and A&R manager. He chose the name "Pulse" but then learned there was already a label with that name, so he added a prefix. In the mid-60s, Impulse!'s headquarters were moved to 1130 Avenue of the Americas.
